How do you make costumes like this? I am just curious because I would LIKE to cosplay Blix from Legend....which is rather similar in a lot of ways.....but I am really daunted by it because it seems like such a step up from anything I have ever done.
Thanks a lot. This was actually the first costume I ever built, so I guess you should be able to do so as well. Just don't be afraid of working with new materials like leather and metal. Designing leather armor is basically like tailoring, just a little rougher. Metal parts are more tricky, I strongly recommend building every armor piece from card board first, to find out the exact shape you are going for. One of the most important aspects of building a costume like this is making it look dirty and old. Aging is a huge aspect. You will need a lot of rust, dark colors and shoe polish.
Thanks for the tips! Although I am most concerned about the mask/face part....
Have you ever seen Legend? Blix is an interesting goblin character. He actually has feathers on his costume and a raven skull necklace(pretty sure they are raven skulls). He also has interesting hair and really tall pointy ears. A lot about his features and outfit are pointy actually.
I wish there were a few more high res gifs and pictures of him around though for reference and such. It's an old movie(from 1985). The character is male but the person in the costume is actually a female. I'm quite a bit taller than the goblins in this movie but oh well. lol. The actress who plays him is 4'11" and I'm 5'8" so nearly a foot taller....I can't change how tall I am though. My boyfriend is shorter than me and his mother is actually 4'11" like Alice Playten(the actress in the costume).
Don't bother about the height. According to Tolkien I am more than twice as big as an orc. Building a mask will take a lot of time and everybody seems to use a different technique. Here is the website of a friend of mine, so you can see what's possible: www.padubrins.com/gallery/
The mask is made out of latex. Commissions are pretty rare (especially if you need a full costume). I know some people who create masks or other pieces of armor. It depends a lot on what you want to do.
I think the character you portray is really attractive in a weird way. He looks so ruthless and cunning... but I guess he detests humans so I couldn't get near him and force my love all over him... too bad!
Now everybody thinks I'm a weirdo.... sorry... But I can't help it! Anyways: amazing costume. (:
Gee, I wonder why that is... maybe because he looks like the ultimative bad-boy who does whatever the fuck he wants? Your whole troop is amazing... looks hollywood style. American larp can't keep up with that!
A question - just for research purposes *cough* - is it even possible to kiss properly with that troll nose?
Ultimative bad-boy? Maybe, because I am the leader of the troop. And we play very violent and I am very unpredictable Kissing is very hard. Often I wear my big teeth (see them on other pics). And we have to push our noses to the side But in general: I have never kissed anyone when I was intime with my character. He hates women and is only interested in slavery, power and gold. No time for love
Well, next Drachenfest I will certainly attend this event and pay a bunch of mercenaries to kidnap you for my collection of dangerous, exotic creatures and then you are miiiine! Muahaha! Umm... what? Oh sorry, I was daydreaming. But on a more serious note I think its pretty amazing that you guys portray the orcs & trolls authentically and not like stupid and/or cute morons.
I would love to see a troll-kiss-picture with their long noses pushed sideways. Too cute... and weird. *chuckles*
